Blessings

  •  After a long and cold winter I now feel spring is definitely in the air! Because it was this never-ending winter, I feel spring really is a blessing!
  • We recently booked our holiday vacation in la douce France (have to wait a couple of months but still…)
  • And next weekend I’m going to London (baby!) with my love! So looking forward to that!

You can find more blessings at Anki’s new and improved site, do make sure to check!

My holiday is almost at its end, monday I will be back in the office as usual. Things will pick up where they left off. I had a great couple of weeks off; took things easy, read magazines and books and had an entire day to myself (an absolute luxury with an almost two year old). I even got to be a little bit creative and did some things I wanted to do for ages. Just small things, but they mean a lot to me.

collage cyb 1-2013

  1. I recently bought a beautiful scarf at famous hotspot Sukha Amsterdam. After a while I felt it lacked something so I embellished it with some small crochet. If you would like to read more about Sukha Vosgesparis wrote several nice posts on them.
  2. I watched a lot of Rachel Khoo on our Foodchannel 24Kitchen. I just fell in love with her simple and tasteful meals. Too bad she closed her little apartment restaurant in Paris, I would have loved to have dinner there!
  3. Sorry I didn’t have a chance to publish this book / journal by Lou Niestadt called Groots en meeslepend leven. I love its message! This book really comes from the heart. In this collage you can see a page from the book. It’s a real work of art. Handwritten and with all sorts of illustrations. You can buy it here for instance.
  4. We finally managed to hang our Ikea lamp! Our attic is so much more alive now with the light of the paper flowers on the walls and ceiling.
  5. A while ago I received a little bag with origami cranes made by Ingrid from Ingthings. I attached them all on a string and hung them in my favorite spot: next to my books.
  6. I listened and listened and listened again to Halcyon: the new album by Ellie Goulding.
  7. I made the first of hopefully a lot more pattern drawings. I love painting and dabbling with the colors.
  8. We went to the newly renovated Stedelijk Museum. The building was beautiful but unfortunately we didn’t get to see a lot of the exhibitions because we were chasing a little man around. For more on the current exhibition of Mike Kelley you can read Prentje’s nice post on it. (Note to self: do NOT ever again try to bring a two year old to a museum or any other place where silent respect is required.)
  9. I embellished one of our pillows with an old doily. You know, with Dottie Angel looking over my shoulder (as I imagine she is).

You can still join my Alphabet Bags giveaway so please do!

Count your blessings is an initiative of Anki of Zilverblauw. For a list of the other participants please check here.

It’s been an emotional week. My grandmother died at the respectable age of 91. Yesterday we said goodbye and I talked about my favorite memories as one of the grandchildren. I tried to pay homage to the special lady she was. She was no ordinary grandmother. She was eccentric and funny, she traveled a lot, had an identical twin sister. It’s hard to fit a whole life into a ten minute talk, but I hope she felt the love. We will really miss her. Fortunately there were other things to be happy about, things that made me want to count my blessings even more. It’s all about appreciating the little things in life and being as fair and softly as you can be…

  • I was nominated again TWICE (!) for the Liebsterblogaward by Mannalexandra and by Mintstudiocreation. Thank you so much ladies! I am most honored but since I recently passed the award to eleven blogs I will pass for now, just to prevent a nominee overdose.
  • I received the most amazing snail mail from Lemonstale. The little box was just a treat to open. Thank you again for paying attention to all the pastel details!
  • At Flavourites Live I bought these lovely art pieces by New Zealand artist Minu, they are my new little friends. I bought them together with the heart bracelet at Approved By You. Lovely collection of things and lovely service too!
  • At another favorite webshop Feels Right I bought this huge flower stamp and little squirrel, I just could not pass this little guy by! To celebrate their one year anniversary they made these beautiful large cards in collaboration with Beeldgeneratie. So nice to receive an extra present! I love surprises like that!
  • To top things off Dawanda send me a gift certificate of 20 euro’s to spend at Dawanda.nl. How great is that? They also gave me the opportunity to pass this gift along so if you would like to receive a gift code please leave a comment and I will pick a lucky winner! Think of it as a little Sinterklaas gift!

There were many other things to be grateful for, but I will post a CYB post again soon. For now I wish you all a happy Sinterklaas celebration and especially for everyone joining the #creasint giveaway on Twitter. I am super excited to open my little parcel!

It’s been a while since my last CYB. Not because I don’t have any blessings to count, but actually because there are so many to choose from and also because I was super busy. You know, with stuff. So for this CYB I just wanted to post some photo’s of my little boy: the light yesterday was so beautiful in our living room, the sun was out all day. Nothing like today’s fog and cold. Still getting to know my darn camera. O, and needing Photoshop and a tripod.

Other blessings include:

  • Discovering this hilarious tumblr. If you want to know the life in publishing, this is it!
  • Cooking from goed eten a really good and tasteful cookbook by Jonge Sla blogger Dorien Knockaert
  • Having the best talk with Maangoud about an exciting plan (which I’m not going to reveal yet).

For more blessings and a list of participants please take a look on Anki’s blog.

It’s high time to count my blessings, because the last couple of weeks have been filled with exciting new things like MTB 2012, but also other fun things like the Shopping Night Haarlem and the Illustratie Biennale. I can strongly recommend both occasions. I had the most fun shopping at eleven p.m. Isn’t that the most weird thing, like the shop has been opened especially for you! At the Illustratie Biennale I was most impressed by the presentation of this new game called Ibb and Obb. The design is amazing! You can watch the trailer here. Other interesting speakers included Illustrik and Siegfried Woldhek. I also loved the work by Kate Bingaman Burt!

Other blessings these last weeks:

  • I won a stamp made by Maandagdaandag at Ingthings giveaway marathon!
  • Nina from Paper Stories wrote a blogpost on how the design for FASGF was made and I received my very first Paper Stories order!
  • I was mentioned on the 101woonideeen-blogpost on MTB 2012 in a list of keep-an-eye-on-these blogs.
  • I found some amazing thrift finds!

Recent blessings:

  • My new house!!! It’s so beautiful. I will share photo’s once I have the chance. We think our new floor from these guys is amazing.
  • The self-made cards I received from my Twitter buddies. As I wrote earlier I came up with the idea of sending some self made cards around to anyone on Twitter who was up for the challenge. Noofje, Rivka and Janet were and we started our three week adventure of sending each other a card. Sometimes it was a bit difficult to remember I had to make one or I lacked inspiration, but as I soon found, nothing beats being a bit creative and I dare say it was a bit therapeutic. You can see the card I received from Noofje here, Rivka’s card is over here and Janet’s here. Thanks again ladies, for sharing your creative love!
  • The happy prospect that Nina from Paper story has agreed to redesign my blog. I really love her style (she made the design for her own blog and is opening a webshop soon). I really feel I found a new friend and am super thrilled to share the result once it’s finished (could be a while, since I’m in the middle of a Big Move).

Recent blessings:

  • Ozowiezo’s twittercolumns: a thought / feeling / event captured in 126 signs ending with #twittercolumn. Diana is a true super-businesswoman and I love her work. Imagine my surprise and excitement when I heard I’d won her twittercolumn poster giveaway! I’m now the proud owner of this poster entitled ” Grijsbebaarde beer“. (in view of poetic freedom I will not attempt to translate the column), but believe me when I say it’s fine!
  • The new webshop of Zilverblauw in collaboration with Casper Boot. I love their “Never grow up”  poster! ’
  • Being mentioned’ for the very first time on one of my favorite blogs: Planet Fur (for me it’s a big deal!).
  • Snailmail from fellow bloggers/ tweeps. There is nothing like finding an envelope on your doormat with a self-made gift

We had a death in our family this week. My uncle died at 67 from cancer. It made us all very sad. He was a sweet man. It made me think about all our holiday’s when I was young, playing with my nieces and nephew and the long walks we made.

We really have to count our blessings, life is too short.

Since I’ve been blogging I’ve got acquainted with so many Dutch and international amazing fellow-bloggers and I’ve been in awe of so much creativity and crafting genius. I feel so little in comparison and try to focus on my little corner of the World Wide Web where I let loose my creative spirit without aiming to get ahead of myself. It is sometimes hard to not try to be the best, especially for such a control freak such as me. Still, I started blogging really to remember my blessings, to remember and honor things I find inspiring, to record a life fleeting by. Most of all I started for myself, not even expecting any readers.  If I reach anyone out there I still find that the most amazing thing ever. So it is time to give thanks and count my blessings. I’ve been honored to join the list of fellow-bloggers counting their blessings on Zilverblauw. Let’s start a revolution one blessing at a time! Here are some of my blessings of the past few weeks.

{1. a great inspiring book by Barbara Tammes (Blueprint for your Castle in the Clouds} {2. my gift for Valentine’s day- a bit early - gift wrapped by the lovely online webshop Nils & Olle} {3. A thank you card from the lovely and talented Nikki} {4. The keys to our new house!!}
