Blogging

Some of you may have noticed a new addition to my side bar. It’s a motto by Anne Herbert I really like and which sums up what my blog is really about. It’s about honoring kindness and beauty. This blog aims to be more than just a platform for sharing beautiful and inspiring things like lifestyle and design things, paintings, illustration or photography. It’s also about honoring kindness (which also relates to my blog title:’ fair and softly goes far’) and promoting good initiatives, awareness, creativity and connection. I have met so many great people since I’ve started this blog who all try to do the same in their own way!

This motto also lifts a veil as to where I would like the future to go. I want to concentrate more on creative connection and joining forces and am currently planning an exciting collaboration which is meant to be the first of many! Who knows where the path will lead!

  •  After a long and cold winter I now feel spring is definitely in the air! Because it was this never-ending winter, I feel spring really is a blessing!
  • We recently booked our holiday vacation in la douce France (have to wait a couple of months but still…)
  • And next weekend I’m going to London (baby!) with my love! So looking forward to that!

You can find more blessings at Anki’s new and improved site, do make sure to check!

When I went to Meet the Tweet last Sunday (thanks again Nina, Rivka and Ria) it was actually one of our conversation topics: why post something about something when others have posted about that something. Is there anything you can add? I thought about that conversation while I postponed writing about MTT. You see, I was a little bit shy. Because how could I add something when so many attending had written so many good posts already? But then I remembered our conclusion: you always have something to bring to the table when it’s in your tone of voice or when it’s drenched in your particular ‘style’. And I remembered what I thought was the great positive about that Sunday: it was meeting so many talented and passionate Dutch ladies. I really was blown away by how amazing some of their products were. I have this awe for anyone with the creative gene, maybe because I lack it. So here are some examples of the talent of some of my (new) favorite creative ladies. In the little booklet Nina made all the attendees have written some quotes and blogtips. If you would like to get your hands on a copy, please do contact Nina.

So I’m not going to rave about Badhu (where it all took place) which is great and really beautiful and I just know you already made plans to go there sometime, but I am going to insist you check out these talented entrepreneurs and lovely blogs right now:

  • If you are searching for the perfect ring try a confetti ring by Twinklebird, I’m saving up for one!
  • Do check out the incredibly versatile Carlotte at Ocher, she paints, she designs, she can do pretty much anything I think! I had a really interesting talk with her (she can be hired too to do design, branding, creative concepts).
  • Love the vintage broches by Broesj! Very dangerous stuff indeed!
  • Really impressed by the blog and work of Windward, lovely lady and very talented. She can be contacted for web design and such.
  • Allihoppa’s blog is now among my Bloglovin Dutch bloggers to keep up with!
  • Nathalie Paak is one of my favorite Dutch bloggers and she sells beautiful selfmade photo’s, cards and lifestyle items in her web shop Worldly Treasury.
  • Also check MooisenMeer where publishing house buddies Suzanne and Saskia aim to inspire.

I’m very excited for the next edition!

My holiday is almost at its end, monday I will be back in the office as usual. Things will pick up where they left off. I had a great couple of weeks off; took things easy, read magazines and books and had an entire day to myself (an absolute luxury with an almost two year old). I even got to be a little bit creative and did some things I wanted to do for ages. Just small things, but they mean a lot to me.

collage cyb 1-2013

  1. I recently bought a beautiful scarf at famous hotspot Sukha Amsterdam. After a while I felt it lacked something so I embellished it with some small crochet. If you would like to read more about Sukha Vosgesparis wrote several nice posts on them.
  2. I watched a lot of Rachel Khoo on our Foodchannel 24Kitchen. I just fell in love with her simple and tasteful meals. Too bad she closed her little apartment restaurant in Paris, I would have loved to have dinner there!
  3. Sorry I didn’t have a chance to publish this book / journal by Lou Niestadt called Groots en meeslepend leven. I love its message! This book really comes from the heart. In this collage you can see a page from the book. It’s a real work of art. Handwritten and with all sorts of illustrations. You can buy it here for instance.
  4. We finally managed to hang our Ikea lamp! Our attic is so much more alive now with the light of the paper flowers on the walls and ceiling.
  5. A while ago I received a little bag with origami cranes made by Ingrid from Ingthings. I attached them all on a string and hung them in my favorite spot: next to my books.
  6. I listened and listened and listened again to Halcyon: the new album by Ellie Goulding.
  7. I made the first of hopefully a lot more pattern drawings. I love painting and dabbling with the colors.
  8. We went to the newly renovated Stedelijk Museum. The building was beautiful but unfortunately we didn’t get to see a lot of the exhibitions because we were chasing a little man around. For more on the current exhibition of Mike Kelley you can read Prentje’s nice post on it. (Note to self: do NOT ever again try to bring a two year old to a museum or any other place where silent respect is required.)
  9. I embellished one of our pillows with an old doily. You know, with Dottie Angel looking over my shoulder (as I imagine she is).

You can still join my Alphabet Bags giveaway so please do!

Count your blessings is an initiative of Anki of Zilverblauw. For a list of the other participants please check here.

I wish you all a wonderful 2013! May all your dreams come true! Last year was a hectic year for me, we moved to another city, my blog became an even bigger part of my life, I got to know a lot of new people, I helped publish this beautiful book (along side a lot of other books) and tried to maintain a mindful balance in the midst of all this… Of course I have all these plans for 2013, but at the same time I would like to maybe start my good intentions for the new year by wanting less. This is a good lesson for me, trying not to be, want everything at once… What are your good intentions?

Don’t forget to join my Alphabet Bags giveaway or help me promote it, the more the merrier!

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas? I spent my days with family and just relaxed, ate a lot of chocolate and sweets (whoops) and tried to get some things done of my never ending list… I was rather unsuccessful with that, but still have one more week before I have to go back to work, so maybe next week will be my most productive… I promised you a smashing giveaway and here it is! Maybe some of you read the decor8 blog, I have been a fan for a while now. I love Holly’s blog and work, I think she’s an amazing blogqueen. I really would like to do a real-live workshop and meet her and when I read she recently held one in her home city Hannover, I was of course intrigued. It seemed like such a nice get together with amazing other bloggers and really educating as well. I would love to go next time! I have to confess the goody bag filled with sponsor goodies Holly gave her students made me drool and even slightly impaired my speech for a while… It was AMAZING! I especially loved the Alphabet Bags and could not get over them. So… I decided to treat myself to a tote bag and one of you dearies to your very own canvas pooch. Just like the one Holly gave to her workshop students. Consider it a small consolation for not being able to do her workshop this time… Maybe we will meet each other at Holly’s next time?

This giveaway is open to international readers and ends on 14 january 2013 – to win please leave a comment explaining why the phrase rules are for fools fits you – the winner will be randomly picked and will receive the RULES ARE FOR FOOLS canvas pooch as depicted. Good luck!

I’m feeling kind off melancholy with 2012 almost at its end. Maybe it’s just me being somewhat tired and glad to have three weeks off from work. It’s all such a roller coaster ride most of the time, it’s hard to stay PRESENT and IN THE MOMENT with a two year old and all that stuff that needs to be done. You know how it can be right? I promised myself always to keep enjoying this blog, but I find that I’m also setting high standards for myself and reading a lot of other blogs doesn’t help. Sometimes it seems every discovery has already been made and there is no stone left unturned. I have to keep reminding myself it’s about the small steps and that things don’t have to be perfect. I have to stay focused on the horizon. The world is such a vast place, you could almost forget.

It’s been an emotional week. My grandmother died at the respectable age of 91. Yesterday we said goodbye and I talked about my favorite memories as one of the grandchildren. I tried to pay homage to the special lady she was. She was no ordinary grandmother. She was eccentric and funny, she traveled a lot, had an identical twin sister. It’s hard to fit a whole life into a ten minute talk, but I hope she felt the love. We will really miss her. Fortunately there were other things to be happy about, things that made me want to count my blessings even more. It’s all about appreciating the little things in life and being as fair and softly as you can be…

feels right

  • I was nominated again TWICE (!) for the Liebsterblogaward by Mannalexandra and by Mintstudiocreation. Thank you so much ladies! I am most honored but since I recently passed the award to eleven blogs I will pass for now, just to prevent a nominee overdose.
  • I received the most amazing snail mail from Lemonstale. The little box was just a treat to open. Thank you again for paying attention to all the pastel details!
  • At Flavourites Live I bought these lovely art pieces by New Zealand artist Minu, they are my new little friends. I bought them together with the heart bracelet at Approved By You. Lovely collection of things and lovely service too!
  • At another favorite webshop Feels Right I bought this huge flower stamp and little squirrel, I just could not pass this little guy by! To celebrate their one year anniversary they made these beautiful large cards in collaboration with Beeldgeneratie. So nice to receive an extra present! I love surprises like that!
  • To top things off Dawanda send me a gift certificate of 20 euro’s to spend at Dawanda.nl. How great is that? They also gave me the opportunity to pass this gift along so if you would like to receive a gift code please leave a comment and I will pick a lucky winner! Think of it as a little Sinterklaas gift!

There were many other things to be grateful for, but I will post a CYB post again soon. For now I wish you all a happy Sinterklaas celebration and especially for everyone joining the #creasint giveaway on Twitter. I am super excited to open my little parcel!
