Once again I’m literally under the weather as they say. My throat hurts so much I can hardly speak and all I want to do is crawl under a blanket and sleep (if it weren’t for that throat that makes just that impossible). I feel like I’ve been sick a lot lately and come to think of it, global news is also not getting any better. Crisis after crises and today’s silence in honor of all the people that lost their lives during WWII is not lifting my spirits either. On top of that I’m reading the very brilliant but darn out horrific book HhhH by Laurent Binet. I know, I know… that doesn’t help. Need something uplifting. Saw these flowers today and made a simple collage.

  •  After a long and cold winter I now feel spring is definitely in the air! Because it was this never-ending winter, I feel spring really is a blessing!
  • We recently booked our holiday vacation in la douce France (have to wait a couple of months but still…)
  • And next weekend I’m going to London (baby!) with my love! So looking forward to that!

You can find more blessings at Anki’s new and improved site, do make sure to check!

I’ve been on cloud nine since I’ve installed a trial version of Adobe Illustrator. This has been exactly the thing I’ve been looking for! I’ve wanted to learn more about this program and other Adobe software since ages and Nina (bless her!) from Paper Stories has been so kind to act as my personal tutor for an evening. This is what I came up with after just one hour dabbling away. Now I have to find a rainbow with a pot of gold at the end so I can actually buy the program after the trial version ends… If you have any tips to spare on good books, tutorials online or on the before mentioned pot of gold. I would love to know! loveisi

This weekend is all about snow, thin flakes of beautiful snow falling from the sky and I could not help but reminisce about the snowflakes dr. Masaru Emoto photographed. It’s the sort of weather with which you crawl under a blanket and watch a good movie with hot chocolate. You could watch Smilla’s sense of snow with Julia Ormond based on the book by Peter Høeg. Happy cocooning everyone!

Now that Christmas is over and done with I find myself secretly longing for spring. Although I understand it’s going to get colder this coming weekend (they even said ‘below zero’!) I tried to ignore that piece of information. I especially needed some sunlight because yesterday evening I saw the first five episodes of Game of Thrones season 2. ‘Winter is coming and the dark night is full of danger and terror‘, which was pretty much the gist of it. I enjoyed it, but found myself especially excited waking up to a sunny day in a somewhat more normal world. Terror and darkness can be somewhat tiresome. So here is to letting the light in and to the unexpected treasures you can then discover.

{I inherited this cup and do not know it’s origin. Since I was little I have always been fascinated by the japanese girl inside. If someone knows where it comes from I would be glad to hear!}

My holiday is almost at its end, monday I will be back in the office as usual. Things will pick up where they left off. I had a great couple of weeks off; took things easy, read magazines and books and had an entire day to myself (an absolute luxury with an almost two year old). I even got to be a little bit creative and did some things I wanted to do for ages. Just small things, but they mean a lot to me.

collage cyb 1-2013

  1. I recently bought a beautiful scarf at famous hotspot Sukha Amsterdam. After a while I felt it lacked something so I embellished it with some small crochet. If you would like to read more about Sukha Vosgesparis wrote several nice posts on them.
  2. I watched a lot of Rachel Khoo on our Foodchannel 24Kitchen. I just fell in love with her simple and tasteful meals. Too bad she closed her little apartment restaurant in Paris, I would have loved to have dinner there!
  3. Sorry I didn’t have a chance to publish this book / journal by Lou Niestadt called Groots en meeslepend leven. I love its message! This book really comes from the heart. In this collage you can see a page from the book. It’s a real work of art. Handwritten and with all sorts of illustrations. You can buy it here for instance.
  4. We finally managed to hang our Ikea lamp! Our attic is so much more alive now with the light of the paper flowers on the walls and ceiling.
  5. A while ago I received a little bag with origami cranes made by Ingrid from Ingthings. I attached them all on a string and hung them in my favorite spot: next to my books.
  6. I listened and listened and listened again to Halcyon: the new album by Ellie Goulding.
  7. I made the first of hopefully a lot more pattern drawings. I love painting and dabbling with the colors.
  8. We went to the newly renovated Stedelijk Museum. The building was beautiful but unfortunately we didn’t get to see a lot of the exhibitions because we were chasing a little man around. For more on the current exhibition of Mike Kelley you can read Prentje’s nice post on it. (Note to self: do NOT ever again try to bring a two year old to a museum or any other place where silent respect is required.)
  9. I embellished one of our pillows with an old doily. You know, with Dottie Angel looking over my shoulder (as I imagine she is).

I wish you all a wonderful 2013! May all your dreams come true! Last year was a hectic year for me, we moved to another city, my blog became an even bigger part of my life, I got to know a lot of new people, I helped publish this beautiful book (along side a lot of other books) and tried to maintain a mindful balance in the midst of all this… Of course I have all these plans for 2013, but at the same time I would like to maybe start my good intentions for the new year by wanting less. This is a good lesson for me, trying not to be, want everything at once… What are your good intentions?

It’s been a while since my last CYB. Not because I don’t have any blessings to count, but actually because there are so many to choose from and also because I was super busy. You know, with stuff. So for this CYB I just wanted to post some photo’s of my little boy: the light yesterday was so beautiful in our living room, the sun was out all day. Nothing like today’s fog and cold. Still getting to know my darn camera. O, and needing Photoshop and a tripod.

Other blessings include:

  • Discovering this hilarious tumblr. If you want to know the life in publishing, this is it!
  • Cooking from goed eten a really good and tasteful cookbook by Jonge Sla blogger Dorien Knockaert
  • Having the best talk with Maangoud about an exciting plan (which I’m not going to reveal yet).

For more blessings and a list of participants please take a look on Anki’s blog.
